修理フレーズの第二弾です。故障について壊れたのか壊したのかでの違いやなんとなくおかしいを伝えるフレーズを紹介します。

＜doesn’t work・・動かない、動作しない、壊れた＞
The microwave oven doesn’t work.
電子レンジが壊れました。
The microwave oven doesn’t work.
「電子レンジが壊れた」
My cell phone doesn’t work.
私の携帯が壊れました。
My cell phone doesn’t work.
「私の携帯が壊れた。」
The switch doesn’t work.
スイッチが動作しません。
The switch doesn’t work.
「スイッチが動作しない。」
＜breke・・壊れる be broken・・壊れた＞
The rice cooker is broken.
炊飯器が壊れた。
The rice cooker is broken.
「炊飯器が壊れた。」
One of the speakers is broken.
片方のスピーカーが壊れた。
One of the speakers is broken.
「片方のスピーカーが壊れた。」
＜stopped working・・動作しなくなった＞
My coffee maker stopped working since this morning.
今朝からコーヒーメーカーが動かなくなった。
My coffee maker stopped working since this morning.
「今朝からコーヒーメーカーが動かなくなった。」
The washing machine suddenly stopped working.
洗濯機が突然動かなくなりました。

「洗濯機が突然動かなくなりました。」
＜out of order・・故障中＞
これは修理の時の伝え方とは少し違いますが、誰かにその製品が故障中であることを伝える時などの表現です。
Our intercom is currently out of order.
我が家のインターホンは今故障中です。
Our intercom is currently out of order.
「我が家のインターホンは今故障中です。」
That land line is currently out of order.
その電話機は今故障中です。
That land line is currently out of order.
「その電話機（固定電話）は今故障中です。」
※固定電話・・land line / landline
今は固定電話ない家も珍しくなく、電話というとスマートフォンや携帯電話を思い浮かべますが、固定電話をさす英単語としてはlandlineと言うのがあります。家庭やofficeの固定電話のことを指す時の別の言い方として、home (tele)phoneやoffice (tele)phone という言い方もできます。
電話機の接客時だけでなく、住所や電話番号を伺う時などの説明としても知っておくと助かる英単語です。
故障（壊した場合）の伝え方
＜（主語）＋broke＋○○・・主語が○○を壊した＞
I broke the fax panel.
FAXのパネルを壊してしまったんです。
I broke the fax panel.
「FAXのパネルを壊してしまった。」
My dog broke Air conditioner remote.
うちの犬がエアコンのリモコンを壊してしまったんです。
My dog broke Air conditioner remote.
「うちの犬がエアコンのリモコンを壊してしまった。」
＜気づいたら壊れていた＞
I found the Enter key was broken.
Enterキーが壊れているのに気づいた。
I found the Enter key was broken.
「Enterキーが壊れているのに気づいた。」
It was broken before I knew it.
いつの間にか壊れていた。
It was broken before I knew it.
「いつの間にか壊れていた。」 直訳すると、自分が気づいたときには壊れてた。
It had been odd since some time ago.
しばらく前からおかしかったんです。
It had been odd since some time ago.
「しばらく前からおかしかったのです。」
※変な、妙な・・odd
It finally broke.
ついに壊れた。
It finally broke.
「ついに壊れた。」
何か異常を感じる（はっきりしない）
It turns on but something is not as usual.
電源は入るんですが、いつもと何か違う。
It turns on but something is not as usual.
「電源は入るんですが、いつもと何か違う。」
※電源が入る・・ turn on （昔電源とか電気をひねってつけていたことから。水道の蛇口などをひねって水を出す場合もturn on）
※電源を切る・・ turn off
Something is wrong with this tablet.
このタブレットは何かがおかしい。
Something is wrong with this tablet.
「このタブレットは何かがおかしい。」
※〜がおかしい・・be wrong with
Vacuum cleaner doesn’t work properly.
掃除機が正常に動作しない。
Vacuum cleaner doesn’t work properly.
「掃除機が正常に動作しない。」
※正常に、正しく・・properly
